FGO (2025)
Contains spoilers for LB7, if you care.
January
Mash's design has always reminded me of my character Jack, but this New Year's art kind of made me lose my mind, so I ended up doodling because of it.
There was a comic to go along with it, but I couldn't figure out an enjoyable way to resolve it. I like ^that panel though.
After that, it was back to chipping away at LB7.
Really want to know whether U-Olga's body just carries deeply engrained memories of Olga constantly getting bit by dogs or if this Alien God has just been going around reaching her arm out to puppies constantly. THEY ARE BOTH PLAUSIBLE...
Okay wow I am talking about my characters a lot but I remember when LB7 first released in JP I redrew Maestro with this face. I went and looked back at it and...not good enough to share here (I could not capture that Takeuchi Je Ne Sais Quoi...) They are basically the same character though LMFAO. God-like powers but personality is so pathetic it cancels out anything cool about them. Extremely bullyable. It's no wonder I like U-Olga......
Oh my god save us, U-Olga.... Olga Marie save us Olga Marie save us save us save us I just made fun of you but save us save usssss
Really cooking here with Dino Grandpa Shiki......
That gradual shift in realization killing me... Why were you so hopeful and expectant to begin with???
I don't think anything in the remainder of LB7 will top this as my favorite scene. I can't help feeling more attached to the Japanese version though.
KU SO GEEEEE
At this point, the narrative shifted focus away from U-Olga & Nemo Marine. I lost interest around here while reading the Japanese version, but going into this part in English I thought, "well in a language I'm fluent in, surely my attention span will hold," but then the exact same thing happened in English LMAO.... LB7...it is maybe not for me....
February
I read like 20 new Valentine's this year but the only one I actually remembered was this fucking old man. I can still hear his little "チラ" in my head everytime I scroll past this. WHO ALLOWED THIS GUY TO BE THIS FUNNY.
March
I spent the last 6 months trying to convince myself I didn't need him (was super-saving for Draco)... but he's so Annoying (affectionate). He can actually quick loop too, which was surprising to me. I think I even used him to farm a lancer node during this event so that semi-ironic dialogue is actually true lmao....
Dipshit!!!
I ended up getting Draco anyway!!!! Unpunished!!!!
I did not immediately start the Arcade collab 'cuz of the Pilgrimage Festival... I've been waiting for Rider Kintoki to get append coins for YEARS and he had a super success thing going for levelling, so that's like, all I used my AP for for nearly two weeks.
GOLDEN!!!! I can't call him perfect yet, 'cuz he doesn't have any of his appends unlocked... but I'm sure he's one of the strongest Ridertokis on the english server.... u_u I'd bet he's in the top 5... He basically dissolves enemies now; class advantage means Nothing to him (I waste all his talents on doors).
April
This is so good; I was gonna say "good joke," but I feel like you can't even call it that. Like it's almost unsettling at this point. The game writers can't make "too young too drink" comments anymore. Guda is definitely an adult. They've been Going Through It in such an excessively dragged out manner for such an excessively long time. How old are they??? Don't worry about it!
Thank you Locusta, the feeling is mutual.
Pretty much loved this character instantly. Her expressions are so good. I really like how the general atmosphere of this unsteady alliance between Chaldea & Draco kind of overshadows how inherently suspicious Locusta's motives actually are. Also just the way she fucking talks in general. Great character.
DRACO PLAYING TSUKKOMI IS SO FUCKING FUNNY...... The sharp veer the plot takes towards lighthearted shit in the early parts of the event is really good. Makes the return to the actual grave circumstances feel like an emotional rugpull.
Oh. Well, that sounds peaceful... (said with eyes glazed over).
I mean, this is Guda we're talking about. You're like 20 hours too late here, we're already getting matching "BFFs forever" tattoos with Draco. Sorry, Mom.
Going to start saying this everytime someone critiques my writing.
Draco really said, "DON'T CARE, DIDN'T ASK."
Pretty much realized what the censored text was immediately augh... That silence from Locusta was palpable.
Okeanos's floor guardian getting defeated before we arrive and having the ocean's contents spill out into the floor below was lowkey one of my favorite parts of this event. I love it when characters continue to exist and be autonomous outside of how they're interacting with (or waiting for) the protagonists. It creates such an oppressive mood in London and truly feels like the moment when shit starts getting real.
B(
I don't tend to get physically emotional when reading fiction very often but I, I actually teared up reading this... Locusta...
OUGHHHH WELCOME TO TEAM BROSEPH, MOM
You know you don't even need to ask at this point
:')
Draco: What further humiliation do you wish to visit upon me?
Me, shuffling my feet half an hour later when I accidentally turn her into a Chuuni Overlord.
But hahahaha holy shit. I'm admittedly a little disappointed that this is sort of a disconnected, "what if Nero lived to be an adult" character and not "Draco who stopped being so uptight and embraced her nature," but still. Great character. Not what I ever envisioned when I spent years thinking about what Mother Harlot would be like in this game. She's so much better!?!
INCREDIBLE LAST WORDS, LOCUSTA
I have every version of Nero in this game and have always been content with only having the OG one grailed, but Draco...Draco is very...good. Kind of feels like her Own Thing at this point, to be honest.
It's been a while since I've genuinely enjoyed an event in this game. Finally some good food. Thank you for treating Nero as an actual character with nuance and not flanderizing her for $$$.
I'm still thinking about Hakuno(n) pulling the strings behind the scenes. Draco spent however long watching countless Chaldeas but had no fucking idea about Halloween. Did Hakuno(n) intentionally set her up with the most batshit version of Chaldea just so she could have more fun with us. Things to think about. I wanna see Draco in a summer event sooooooo bad now and it's gotta be the little tsundere one losing her mind at other people being stupid. I wanna see her tsukkomi-ing Liz at Halloween. Draco as a background character in a GudaGuda event (trying to actualize it by typing it out). HIRE ME TO WRITE DRACO SCENES, LASENGLE!!
Anyway, GOOD EVENT.
May
Koyan coming home on the VERY last roll when I've already mentally gone through the 8 stages of grief is really the most in-character thing ever. ANYWAY it was driving me up a wall not being able to use Buster comps on JP so YAYYY I'M IN THE META TOO NOW
Trying to chip away at LB7 again; I LOVE HER FACIAL EXPRESSIONS SO MUCH...
Of course you could, sweetie
July
Insert that "it's been 3000 years" meme here, but omg....finally got Grandpa...AND IT WAS A TICKET ROLL.
...But then I completely beefed it on Aesc's banner hahahaha. I was almost out of white whales in this game, so I guess it's fine... Gives me something to save for....... u_u
Mr. Nasu why did you go out of your way to make her heterosexual then throw lines like this in constantly to torment me
Fucking doofus
August
Imagine if Tristan had more than 5 lines in this event; he could have been spouting shit like this regularly, YOU DIDN'T PROPERLY APPRECIATE YOUR OWN GUY!!
I love your positive thinking Mash; we're on fire
I was fresh out of this event as I was typing this and full of vitriol over how much I disliked the overall thing, (probably my least favorite FGO event I've ever experienced. Unless Tunguska counts) but then as I was looking through my screenshots I cooled off........ There were some nice things about it.... Moriarty was funny......
I think a big issue was that there are usually fluffy "filler" stories in summer events that I put off until after I've completed the main story & know I have time to spare, but this time around they were baked in and REQUIRED for progression and some them just...they were very boring. Really made my progress into a slog. The main narrative felt very padded and full of arbitrary meandering conflicts that just weren't interesting to me. I saw a guy on reddit express a similar sentiment and got downvoted to hell lmao WHY ARE YOU BOOING HIM...HE'S RIGHT.
I had to start hitting the skip button around the time we were making a doujin with Baobhan. I probably spent 30 hours total on this event and ended up with an NP4 Cnoc to show for it, OW......... (7 years of playing this game; never flubbed like this before, OW).
Lostbelt 6 is probably my favorite story I've ever read (ever) and this event felt like it was monkey-pawing it back into existence mainly for the sake of gacha. It felt like they were building towards giving Barghest some closure (I will have to find out later when I'm not so Tired); but for the most part I just don't really feel like this event needed to exist? I kind of wish it didn't...? I was left with this feeling vaguely when I skimmed it orginally in Japanese 2 years ago, but that feeling really cemented this time around.
Also imagine a world where instead of this event we got Cnoc as an anniversary servant and she had her OG outfit AND the bride one AND a swimsuit. We're living in the wrong timeline.
ANYWAY, SUMMER PASSIONLIP, AM I RIGHT FELLAS??????????????????????????
