Orchids

Orchids still kind of scare me but I have enough to justify making a separate page for them. I am definitely not an expert with these. Orchids are kind of scary "you already said that" ORCHIDS ARE KIND OF SCARY....

Dendrobium Aberrans

  • Obtained: March 2026
  • Image Last Updated: March 2026
  • Notes: I went to a fancy Orchid show with my mom and she insisted on buying something for me, and I thought this one was really neat. It's got a cool bulb shape behind the leaves?? I tried to pick something that I'd enjoy looking at even when there were no flowers. I took like 10 photos of it but could never quite capture its Essence. The internet says these are as easy as Phals I really hope it did not lie to me. (I am returning a couple weeks later to say the internet lied to me!)

Erycina (Psygmorchis) Pusilla

  • Obtained: March 2026
  • Image Last Updated: March 2026
  • Notes: Got at the same Orchid show as the Dendrobium above. Pusilla means "very little" in Latin. ;-; The fan-shape of the leaves were probably some of the most unique leaves I saw at the show. It's already flowering for me, but I haven't gotten around to taking a pic (waiting/hoping to get two blooms in one image...greedy).

Jewel Orchid (Ludisia Discolor)

  • Obtained: January 2025
  • Image Last Updated: January 2025
  • Notes: The internet talks about these like they're common, but this was the only time I'd seen one for sale, and was so excited to get it. I love how dark the leaves are!! Matches with Aster too. :p

It doesn't tolerate drying out at all, and drops leaves if I go even 12 hours too long without water. So one of my tougher to care for plants, in that sense... u_u

  • Flowered for me in December 2025. The flower spikes are awkwardly long so I had to basically keep my greenhouse cabinet open a crack so the flower could extend up out of it hahaha. I don't think it had a scent? Pretty though.

Phalaenopsis Orchid

  • Obtained: December 2022
  • Image Last Updated: Spring 2023
  • Notes: My grandma passed this off on me when she thought it was done blooming, and it proceeded to rebloom for the following 6 months afterwards. These plants need cold temperatures during fall in order to rebloom, and I swear everytime I've had the thought "ok I'll try putting this in the garage for a few weeks" the plant will do a sudden health downturn RIGHT beforehand so I haven't been brave enough to do it. ONE OF THESE YEARS I'LL REBLOOM YOU.....ONE OF THESE YEARS......

(Mini) Phalaenopsis Orchid Sogo Vivien

  • Obtained: January 2026
  • Image Last Updated: January 2026
  • Notes: I've always really liked mini Phalaenopsis Orchids but resisted buying one for years since I already have a big one, but...I really liked the flower pattern on this one..... Something about the stripes on the top petals coupled with the solid color on the bottom??? I like that this plant will remain tiny.

Close up of the flowers, just because...
