I've reached a point where I'm pretty satisfied with my plant collection, but also, I really like the plants below and would find room for them if given the opportunity.

Aeranthos "Teddy Bear"

  • Notes: Look at this little round guy. These are expensive because they grow so slowly. I kind of doubt I will ever be getting one. Very cute, though!

Amydrium Zippellanium

  • Notes: Replaced the Thai Constellation as my #1 White Whale plant. Honestly my Rhapidophora Decursiva kind of fulfills the same pseudo-palm niche as this plant (I even see them mixed up with each other occasionally), but also if I saw this at my local nursery for $10 I'd still buy it instantly.

Calathea Medallion

  • Image Credit: David Stang (CC 4.0)
  • Notes: Not an uncommon plant, but I'm really hoping to get one at a small starter size. I've only ever see these as 6+ inch pots!!

Calathea Rufibarba

  • Notes: The only time I've ever seen this plant for sale, there was one single plant in stock and I excitedly picked it up and tilted it to look under the leaves and it was probably the most coated in spidermites I've ever seen a plant in my entire life. I just sort of stood there in shock for about 10 seconds before quietly putting it down and walking away in a daze. I have no idea how much that says about the Rufibarba in general or if that plant was just Very Unfortunate. Anyway I really like the shape of the plant and the red undersides. Pretty when healthy!!

Edit: I've seen this one two more times since then and they were 100% mited both times. Hang in there to this plant.

Ficus Alii

  • Image Credit: Plants With Jem
  • Notes: One of the plant ladies I watch on youtube has this plant and everytime I see it in-frame I'm just like....I want thaaaaaat. I've dealt with enough Ficuses now to know I'd need to get this as a starter so it could adjust to my environment but I don't really...see them around at that size...even online... They only get sold as office-plant sized.... Raugh....

Hoya Chinhungensis

  • Notes: The little leaves are so cute. B'( It has really adorable flowers too, but that would just be a random bonus for me. I just really like the growth pattern of these. Have the distinct feeling that even if my local nursery carried this, it'd be out of my price range.

I got a Goldfish plant recently that actually sort of ticks all the same boxes as this plant & now I'm wondering if I can justify it...it's cute though...It's cute....

Hoya Flamingo Dream

  • Image Credit: Brumley & Bloom
  • Notes: Normally when I see plants with unique colors like this online they inevitably don't look that good IRL, but I saw this plant in-person and it legit looks THAT GOOD. It was also fricking FIFTY DOLLARS?????
  • I got it for $15. :'D Patience wins.

Manjula Pothos

  • Notes: I'm not immune to propaganda. I've seen quite a few people on youtube with these plants up moss poles and I think they look reallllllly nice. One perk of actually having a popular plant on this list is that if I wait long enough it will probably become more widely available and cheaper...but also I keep getting lowkey antagonized everytime I come across the "rarer" version of this plant (Mutant Manjula) in stores. I just want the regular one!!!!!

Philodendron Silver Sword (Narrow)

  • Image Credit: The Plant Lady San Francisco
  • Notes: I'm not usually a fan of "minty/silver" colored plants, but I like this one. The silver sword is one of those """common""" plants that everyone bought when they were overhyped, so demand dropped, so supply dropped, so I never see them anywhere (even the regular ones). The narrow variety doesn't develop lobes at the top of the leaves; it's a look I really enjoy. Doubt I'm gonna come across one of these any time soon!!
